Delicious, fresh, British grass-fed lamb… Oh, how do we love thee?

Let us count the ways as we prepare to celebrate this versatile meat during Love Lamb Week 2024 from September 1-7.

1. Lamb is perfect for making an iconic Sunday roast and is traditionally the go-to for Easter gatherings. But aside from its religious associations, roast lamb is also easy to cook and sure to impress guests. Forgiving enough, so that enough novice cooks can master the perfect roast – it can be served pink all the way to well done. Opt for the foodies’ choice of a Boned and Rolled Shoulder or create an incredible dinner centrepiece with a Crown of Lamb.

2. Lamb meat is incredibly versatile and can be used in various dishes. It can be slow-cooked in stews or roasts, or used in kebabs, burgers or tacos – there are plenty of ways to incorporate lamb as an ingredient.

3. Lean and tasty – lamb is a nutrient-dense red meat that can be a healthy addition to your diet. It’s high in protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals that are important for many bodily functions

4. Hardened athletes and casual gym bunnies alike can benefit from eating lamb as it contains creatine, which is an energy source for muscles, and taurine, an antioxidant amino acid. Lamb is also high in iron, zinc, and B vitamins, including vitamin B12, niacin, riboflavin, and pantothenic acid. These nutrients support the immune system, bone health, and cholesterol management.

5. Lamb suits any budget and any occasion. Choose from a show-stopping centrepiece crown to Parmesan Crusted Lamb Chops for a mid-week meal. If you’re watching the pennies, opt for cheaper, flavoursome slow-cooked lamb cuts such as boned and diced shoulder, whole shoulder, boneless breast and neck fillets. And if you want excellent value for money, consider lamb offals such as liver and kidney. Firing up the barbecue? Plump for Butterflied Leg Of Lamb With Harissa Yogurt for a delicious coal-cooked dish.

6. Lamb is often said to have a unique, gamey flavour and can be tender and juicy when cooked properly. It goes well with many different cuisines and is used around the world to create iconic dishes such as Greek Moussaka or Persian Lamb tagine.

7. Lamb is surprisingly easy to cook. It’s simple to prepare in the oven or on the hob, and it usually doesn’t require a lot of fuss. For a one-pot dish, try our ambassador chef Rosie Dicker’s Traditional Lancashire Hot Pot made with either lamb neck or shoulder.

8. Lamb meat is sustainably produced and is one of the most environmentally friendly meats you can buy. Often produced in small batches, it is free-range and grass-fed, so you can be sure that you’re eating ethically produced meat.

9. British lamb is produced to world-class food and farming standards, standards we are proud to uphold, with our Lakings herd of heritage breed sheep, raised here in the Lincolnshire Wolds.

10. When you buy lamb from your local butcher, you’re not only supporting a local business, you’re also supporting British Farmers and the farming industry as a whole, which is facing increasing pressure from imported products that are not produced to the same high standards as here in the UK.

So, celebrate Love Lamb Week this year, supported by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, by visiting Lakings to discover our full range of grass-fed lamb produce, delivered to your door via DPD’s next-day temperature-controlled delivery service*.
