We’ve just waved ‘goodbye’ to National Butchers Week for another year.

An event initiated to draw attention to the traditional skills and values of local butchers, especially in an age dominated by chain stores, the week seeks to highlight the uniqueness, personal touch, and commitment to quality that local butchers bring to the table, ensuring they remain a valued part of our communities.

For Lakings, this focus has always been at the centre of our story. It’s safe to say, we didn’t begin in a boardroom. Lakings has been the beating heart of a community since 1908. It has always stood proudly in a town where people value shopping at the butcher, the baker and the greengrocer.

The faces behind the counter have changed, but for over 115 years, the same ethos has remained, Identical to the one John Laking established on day one. Today, Andrew Wright continues that legacy with a personal connection that spans decades; his family were lifelong friends of the Lakings’, often sharing Sunday lunches long before taking on the helm at this much-loved butchery.

This deep-rooted history is why our connections with local suppliers are so unbreakable. We don’t just stock local produce; we champion the local ecosystem. From the iconic Lincolnshire Plum Bread by Myers to world-renowned local cheeses, and of course, our own award-winning Lincolnshire sausage, our shop is a curated gallery of the county’s finest food.

In a world that is increasingly automated, we see ourselves as custodians of a traditional craft, taking the time to do everything byhand, as it always has been. When you walk through our doors or order from us online, you aren’t just a customer; you are becoming part of a story that has survived two World Wars and the rise of food convenience. You are supporting tradition and quality that began in the 1900s and continues today with a commitment to excellence.
