Happy New Year! We know, we’re a bit late to the party… but it’s been a busy start to the year here at Lakings.
We assume your Christmas decorations are packed away in the loft once more and life is returning to normal? But that’s just our point this week… after the festivities and the excesses of the Christmas, how easy is it to just ‘get back to it’?
Eating fabulously indulgent food over the festive season is wonderful – and we know we struggle to leave those delicacies behind, reserved to just one short celebration – but for many of you, we know you like to get back to your routine.
That said, we’re halfway through January – how are you finding the return to everyday meals? Hmmmm. We thought so. And that’s where we come in. Everyday doesn’t ever have to mean lacklustre. Far from it. Those old faithful dishes are quite easy to supercharge to get you through the season, with just a few ingredient twists.
Elevate your teatime treat of sausage, chips and beans by choosing Lakings traditional Lincolnshire sausages – made using the finest Yellow Belly (Lincolnshire) pork and our special blend of herbs and spices.
Take your minced beef on toast (yes, it’s a thing, ask chef Rosie Dicker who has shared her recipe for this comforting classic with us) to the next level using beef ground from the finest chuck. Serve with cheesy garlic bread for a hearty twist.
Our hand-produced mince also promises to turn other everyday meals such as Cottage Pie, Spaghetti Bolognese, and Chilli Con Carne into true showstoppers.
Choose to brunch on the best dry cured back bacon, level up your Sunday roast with a boned and rolled leg of Lincolnshire grass-fed lamb or create a mouth-watering Baked Chicken Parmesan using only the best quality chicken breasts from our butchery.
Even the humble sandwich can take on a fresh gleam when you choose our sliced cooked or honey roast ham between two thick slices of freshly-baked bread, slathered in a punchy pickle.
Yes, in the words of the famous Swedish flat-pack furniture giant, we’re here to help you make food that’s ‘wonderful every day’.
And that starts with the quality, provenance and production methods of everything WE supply, and YOU eat. Here at Lakings, we work almost exclusively with Lincolnshire farmers to supply our butchery counter.
Keeping our suppliers as close to home as possible allows us to not only showcase the phenomenal food being produced in the county but ensures an approach to farming based on sound ethics and a responsibility to protect the environment. And quality is paramount in everything we do.
Not only that, when you eat better, you feel better and after a busy season of some over indulging, that’s something we can get behind – even if we miss having the fridge brimming cheese. At this time of year, when it’s dark and cold, our bodies can get run down and we can become more susceptible to the many winter viruses doing the rounds.
That’s why it’s important to focus on eating well. Like most habits, the more you choose healthy food options, the more normal that way of thinking becomes and we are very much about celebrating normal.
Dieticians agree that adding more protein to your diet keeps you fuller for longer, stabilises energy and mood and reduces sugar cravings. Lean meats like chicken and turkey are a great source of protein and be sure to add plenty of colourful vegetables to your plate, too.
As we all get thoroughly back into the swing of normal life, whatever that looks like for you, we look forward to helping you stay healthy and happy in the coming year and will continue to offer our customers the chance to make conscientious choices about eating meat in 2023.
