Bring home a little taste of Independence Day
The Fourth of July approaches, giving us another perfect excuse to gather friends and family for a memorable celebration at home. With Lakings’ selection of prime cuts and exclusive recipes from our esteemed Ambassador Chef, Rosie Dicker, you can host an authentic American feast in your backyard, but with all the added benefit of shopping with Lakings.
A successful Fourth of July party centres around delicious, hearty dishes. Here’s how you can craft a mouthwatering menu using Lakings’ products and a little of Rosie’s culinary expertise.
Classic American Burgers
Start with Lakings’ premium ground beef to craft juicy, flavourful burgers. Made using offcuts from our steaks and roasting joints, Lakings beef burgers are succulent and juicy. Perfect cooked under the grill, they’re even better grilled on the barbecue. Grill to perfection and serve with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and a selection of cheeses.
BBQ Pork Ribs
Lakings’ succulent pork ribs are ideal for barbecuing. Marinate them in Rosie’s signature apricot barbecue sauce, featuring a balance of sweet and tangy notes. Slow-cook on the grill until tender, allowing the flavours to meld beautifully.
Grilled Chicken Skewers
Utilise Lakings’ premium chicken breasts or thighs as per the original ‘Marmalade and lemon Chinese style chicken’ recipe to prepare skewers marinated in a zesty blend of lemon, garlic, and herbs. Rosie’s recipe ensures each bite is infused with vibrant flavours, making them a crowd-pleaser.
Salsa with a Twist
Complement your grilled meat with a refreshing salsa. Rosie’s take on this traditional side is perfect, paired with braised pork, but is an ideal accompaniment to grilled skewers, burgers, or ‘links’.
A little history lesson
On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence, a document drafted primarily by Thomas Jefferson. This declaration announced that the thirteen American colonies were no longer under British rule and were now independent states. The move was driven by growing tensions between the colonies and King George III, including taxation without representation and restrictions on trade and governance.
The decision to break away from Britain led to the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), during which the United States fought for and secured its independence.
An opportunity to celebrate
