Celebrate the best of British with British Food Fortnight and Lakings

From the rolling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds to the windswept coasts of Cornwall, Britain is home to some of the finest food in the world. And this September, we’re joining the nationwide celebration that is British Food Fortnight – a two-week tribute to the farmers, makers, butchers, bakers (and everyone in between) who put real, honest food on our tables.

Whether you’re a seasoned supporter of all things local or simply want to explore what British food really tastes like, this is your moment. And here at Lakings, we’re proud to be part of it.

What is British Food Fortnight?

Running from September 26th to October 12th, 2025, British Food Fortnight is the country’s biggest, most delicious celebration of home-grown food. It’s about putting local produce front and centre, championing traditional methods, and reminding us all that what we eat and where it comes from matters. Started by the team at Love British Food, the event brings together communities, schools, chefs, pubs, and producers in a national moment of good taste.

Why it matters to us

At Lakings, British food isn’t just a fortnight-long affair – it’s what we do, day in, day out. Our heritage lies in the heart of Louth, a town long known as a food lover’s destination. Our counters are stocked with Lincolnshire beef, pork, and lamb, reared by farmers we know and trust. Our shelves are lined with deli products and dry goods that come with a story – often one that begins just down the road.

We believe British food is about more than Sunday roasts and proper puddings (although we do love those, too). It’s about respecting the seasons, knowing your butcher, and understanding that quality takes time.

How to get involved with Lakings

Want to join the celebration? Here are a few simple ways to make the most of British Food Fortnight with us:

Cook up a classic: Go back to your roots with proper British comfort food. Our butchers can help you find the perfect cut for:

  • Slow-cooked beef stew
  • Lamb shoulder with rosemary and garlic, or
  • A classic sausage and mash with Lakings’ award-winning Lincolnshire sausages

Try something new (but still local)

Why not take inspiration from across the UK? Think:

  • Cornish-style pasty pies made with our steak mince
  • A Scottish-inspired game casserole, or
  • A rich, creamy Welsh rarebit using Lincolnshire Poacher cheese.

Make it a family affair

Get the whole household involved. Pick up one of our family barbecue packs, stock up on seasonal veg from the market, and let the kids help with peeling, stirring or setting the table. British food is all about togetherness.

Shop consciously

British Food Fortnight is the perfect reminder to look at labels, ask questions, and buy from people who can tell you where your food comes from. At Lakings, we’re always happy to help – because food should come with a conversation, not just a barcode.

Whether you’re planning a Sunday roast for ten, picking up something special for midweek meals, or just popping in for your usual favourites, know that every choice you make supports local farmers, butchers, bakers and makers.

British food has a lot to be proud of. And here at Lakings, we think it starts right here in Lincolnshire.
