Who doesn’t love autumn?

It’s the season for staying at home on a windswept afternoon and discovering a new Netflix show to binge on after eating a belly-busting Sunday roast. Or for pulling on coats and wellies to go mushroom hunting in the woods or kick fallen leaves in the park with a sausage roll in one hand and a flask of hot chocolate in the other.

It’s the perfect time to slow down and eat well, reconnect and recharge after the activities of the summer. The changing of the seasons may be the perfect excuse to hibernate, but it also offers the chance to get together with friends and family, too, especially if you enjoy celebrating Halloween and Bonfire Night.

Over the last few years, Halloween has become even more a key date on the UK calendar, with consumers spending roughly £470 million in 2019. This year, October 31st falls on a Sunday and, with the easing of Covid restrictions and given it is the last weekend of the school half-term break for many families, it’s likely the event will be back with a bang and a ‘wooh-ooh’.

So, what to eat? Creating a Lakings ‘spooktacular’ spread couldn’t be easier.

Why not impress your guests with a rack of slow-cooked beef rib? Lakings’ ambassador chef Rosie Dicker says it’s the ‘ultimate comfort food’. Find her fool proof recipe using Lakings beef short ribs here.

Rosie has also created a real people-pleaser of a recipe using Lakings sausages – Lincolnshire Toad in The Wolds with onion gravy. A total classic, yet easy to make and so comforting, this dish is perfect for coming home to after a night of trick or treating.

If a buffet is more your style – Lakings offers a range of cooked meats to serve as a platter or in sandwiches. Choose from honey roast ham, traditional Lincolnshire Stuffed Chine (collars of bacon, hand-sliced and stuffed with parsley) and our best-selling haslet, as featured on The Hairy Bikers TV show.

We also sell a selection of sausage rolls, pork pies, pasties, Scotch eggs, quiches and sweet treats, like flapjacks and delicious Rocky Road.

Hot on the heels of the spooky fun of Hallowe’en, celebrating Bonfire Night on Friday, November 5, will be a great way to kick off the weekend. Make sure you pick up a pack (or three) of Lakings Lincolnshire sausages made in our Louth shop using Lincolnshire-reared pork – because we’re certain everyone loves a banger in a bun.

As guests gather outside to view the firework display, a tray of burgers will go down well too – alongside a serving of sizzling hot dogs. Lakings offers a range of burger patties – from traditional beef to pork and apple and lamb and mint – all with our quality and flavour guarantee.

So, as memories of summer fade, we may be spending more time indoors but that offers the perfect opportunity to discover and recreate the delicious autumnal recipes devised by Lakings ambassador chef Rosie Dicker. From spatchcock chicken using our herb-fed chickens to butterflied leg of lamb, find her suggestions right here.

With Lakings next-day delivery service, comprehensive website and quality assurances, finding the right meat products, whatever the occasion this autumn couldn’t be easier.

Alternatively, call into our Louth shop and speak to our friendly staff who will be happy to help with your selection.
