International Women’s Day, March 8, 2024

This year sees International Women’s Day spreading the message: ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress’ and it’s certainly a theme we support throughout our business.

We are proud of our relationship with our ambassador chef, Lincolnshire-based chef Rosie Dicker, who has created a selection of delicious dishes using Lakings’ quality products.

From how to make the perfect Hollandaise sauce for your poached eggs to tips on creating a stunning table centrepiece for Mother’s Day On Sunday, March 10, Rosie is a tour de force in the culinary world.

Cordon-Bleu trained Rosie has 25 years of experience having worked in several commercial kitchens around the county and as a private chef.

Rosie explains how her approach to food is more about the classics than “reinventing the wheel”.

She says: “I suppose you could call my food classic but contemporary at the same time. I feel very strongly about doing what I do but well and not reinventing the wheel.

“I’m all about eating for flavour and season, that’s one of my philosophies. If you give it some good energy and love, you won’t go far wrong.”

With Mother’s Day this Sunday and Easter just around the corner, Rosie’s philosophy is one we can endorse.

Let’s hear it for British Pie Week, March 4- March 10

As if one awareness week isn’t enough, this week is also British Pie Week, which celebrates the rich heritage and versatility of pies in the UK.

But do you know what qualifies as a pie? A pie in its purest form is defined as a filling encased in pastry and baked, pies range from savoury to sweet, with various pastry options, from puff to shortcrust.

So, quiches don’t count but Cornish pasties do!

Some pies – such as the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie, are even recognised in the European Union as having prestigious Protected Geographical Indication status, which guarantees a product’s characteristics or reputation, authenticity, and origin.
