Celebrate the sustainable, high animal welfare, environment-enhancing delicious food produced across Great Britain
Endorsed by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, British Food Fortnight runs from September 18 – October 3, 2021. Timed to take place around the traditional autumn harvest – it is one of the most important times of the year for farmers and food producers – which sees the culmination of a year’s hard work and investment.
It is also when communities traditionally come together to give thanks for successfully producing food from the land which is an important part of our heritage.
A spokesperson for British Food Fortnight said: “British food is produced to the highest environmental and animal welfare standards in the world. With four distinct seasons, wonderfully varied topography, and a vibrant farming community, we have a diverse and delicious range of food. There is much to discover and enjoy!
“From our beef and sheep breeds which are the envy of the world; to our dairy farmers who now produce more types of cheese than France; to the abundance and rich variety of fruit and vegetables, we are indeed truly blessed.”
Naturally, with a history in farming and butchery going back more than 100 years, Lakings is proud to get behind this annual campaign which has been running since 2002.
Owning Lakings, alongside the family farm and abattoir, Andrew Wright and his established, expert team can provide the reassurance and honesty that customers deserve, and demand, from the food chain – from farm to plate.
At Lakings, we work almost exclusively with Lincolnshire farmers to supply our butchery counter – championing British produce through and through.

Lincoln Red heifers
Our beef is sourced from John Needham’s farm at Gayton-Le-Wold – just four or five miles away from our shop in the market town of Louth, in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
Rough grazing, in a totally traditional environment, John uses Lincoln Red heifers, bred with a continental bull – which results in meat with all the marbling and flavour the Lincoln Red is known for, with the texture and depth of the continental.
Lincolnshire Lamb
When it comes to lamb, we can not only guarantee that our lamb has grazed in Lincolnshire fields, but that it has a connection to the Lakings family farm too.
With a mix of Beltex, Badger Face Texel, Rouge and Blue Du Main pedigree sheep making up the Lakings flock, our sheep are free to roam outdoors, grazing on the lush vegetation that can be found in abundance on the family’s farm. Each of these quality breeds has been hand-picked to make sure lamb-lovers enjoy the best in flavour, succulence and eating quality.

Locally Produced Pork
Just as our beef is produced locally, so is our pork.
Sourced by Lakings solely from one Lincolnshire farmer, our pork is guaranteed to not only be British but ‘Yellowbelly’, too.
Coming from a state-of-the-art Red Tractor farm where welfare standards are rigorously upheld, the pigs are fed on feed grown and milled specifically for them on-site. A touch that provides them with a diet designed to produce the best in flavour and texture.
The aim of British Food Fortnight is simple… to encourage consumers to discover the diverse and delicious food produced in Britain and to actively seek it out.
Every time a customer buys from a British food producer, like Lakings they ensure a robust market for British food that makes it viable for farmers and producers to continue to invest in farming and domestic food production.
We pride ourselves on the fact every cut of beef, pork and lamb is sourced from Lincolnshire farms, and our herb-fed chickens come from the nearby county of Yorkshire.
