Nothing says ‘we love you, Mum’ like steering her out of the kitchen, insisting she pops her bottom on the sofa, handing her a cup of tea (or a glass of wine) and letting her relax while everyone else pitches in to make her favourite meal. And Mother’s Day on Sunday, March 27th, is the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Our comprehensive butcher’s counter offers a bounty of produce from selected local farmers, here in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds, so your family can enjoy restaurant-quality meat at home. Our ethically-produced meat from heritage breeds not only tastes incredible but every purchase, either from our shop or via an online order supports a traditional style of farming that works in harmony with the environment. We believe these things set us apart from your average butcher, not only that, the difference is tangible – you can taste the quality.

So, if you want the best for mum on Mother’s Day, the real challenge will be deciding what to choose from our extensive seasonal offering. Luckily, our ambassador chef Rosie Dicker is on hand to help. Her latest recipe is Fragrant Roast Pork shoulder – which is sure to be a hit with mum – and a delicious twist on the traditional Sunday roast.

Made using pork shoulder, boned and scored and marinated in warming herbs and spices like turmeric and ginger, Rosie’s dish is a luxuriant fusion of Asian flavours with coconut and coriander, served with fragrant basmati rice. With Mother’s Day falling slightly later in March this year, this means our grass-fed lamb is very much in season.

The foodies’ choice of lamb roast, our boned and rolled shoulder has so much to offer. Put it in the oven and forget about it for hours. We love roasting ours with lemon and thyme for a spectacularly tasty family dinner full of flavour. If you’re working within a budget and want a flavoursome joint, opt for a joint of beef brisket. A firm favourite with slow cooker or barbecue aficionados (the weather might be warm enough – you never know), brisket boasts intense marbling which delivers a real depth of flavour. The incredible savoury fat that only comes from Lincoln Red cattle, renders down during slow cooking to enrich the cooking juices – which make an incredible jus. We’re certain this would be a hit with mum.

Chef Rosie’s inspiration for Mother’s Day dishes isn’t just limited to roasts. How about getting older children in the kitchen making Tasty Italian Meatballs?

Rosie says: “This dish can be partly made in advance, it’s a great choice for a meal that has real flavour and substance.”

Made using a mixture of minced pork and minced beef, the meatballs and sauce can be made overnight and left in the refrigerator. Taking roughly 40-minutes to cook once prepared, this dish is perfect if you’re planning on taking mum out for the day.  More of Rosie’s recipes can be found here too. But, whatever kind of dish you decide on, we’re confident you’ll be impressed with our produce and service – with an ‘excellent’ rating on TrustPilot, you don’t just have to take our word for it.

We offer so much choice and with our next day delivery service, you can have the ingredients for your Mother’s Day meal delivered to your door. We also offer Lakings gift cards to a value of your choice, so if your mum is a bit of a ‘foodie’, why not give her the gift of shopping with us?

From meal inspiration to gift cards, even a delicious range of sweet treats in our bakery section and an outstanding selection of produce on our butcher’s counter – we’ve got you covered this Mother’s Day. All you have to remember to do is wash the pots … or load up the dishwasher!
