How to ace entertaining as Wimbledon returns
All the sporting drama of Wimbledon returns to Centre Court, and our screens, this July.
Tennis fans can settle in for two weeks of action from their favourites, which this year includes six British players with 2016 champion Andy Murray in the draw, as well as two-time champion Rafael Nadal.
The event started serving up delicious sporting suspense on July 1 and we think it’s the perfect opportunity to ace your entertaining skills during what we hope will be a sunshine and action-packed tournament.
At Lakings Butchers in Louth, we have perfect meal suggestions to fuel your viewing. What’s not to love?
Keep It Simple: Grillsticks with salad and flatbreads
For a light and healthy option, try our ready-to-cook kebabs and chicken beef or lamb grillsticks, available from our barbecue shop, paired with a fresh green salad and flatbreads. Prepare the salad ahead of time with crisp leaves, vine tomatoes, and feta cheese, tossed in a light olive oil and red wine vinegar dressing. Our grillsticks can be cooked on the barbecue or grilled – choose from flavours including Indian spice, Argentinian ‘fire’, Jamaican Jerk, or Greek Passion, to name a few. Serve with warm flatbreads and tzatziki for a refreshing and satisfying meal.
An Italian classic: Baked Chicken Parmesan
Incredibly easy once you’ve done it once, this will fast become a family favourite. Made using Lakings Chicken Breasts and a homemade marinara sauce, which can be made ahead of time, so all you need to do is prep the chicken breasts and pop the assembled dish in the oven to cook for around 20 minutes – it’s so fast and easy, you won’t have to miss any of the on-court action.
Stir-Fry to the Rescue: Dan Dan Noodles
Our ambassador chef Rosie Dicker has created a quick recipe perfect to rustle up after watching a volley or two on court. Sizzle Lakings locally sourced Lincolnshire pork mince with onions, garlic, fresh ginger, pak choi, and roasted peanuts in a hot wok. Cook your choice of noodles as per the packet instructions. Combine the noodles with the sticky pork, garnishing with freshly chopped spring onions for a delicious meal that’s ready in just 20 minutes.
The Ultimate ‘Picky Bits’ meal (or picnic)
You don’t need to venture out to enjoy a picnic. Lay a blanket on your lawn or decking, grab some cushions and paper plates, and voilà – you have a picnic setting. Lakings Butchers offers a range of picnic-perfect treats from our pantry section. Our freshly made sausage rolls, crafted with traditional Lincolnshire sausages and delicate puff pastry, are a delight. Try our handmade Scotch Eggs, featuring locally produced eggs wrapped in sausage meat and breadcrumbs. Don’t miss our ham and tomato quiche, made with a shortcrust pastry filled with home-cured ham and tomato slices. And for a classic touch, our Lakings Haslet, a Lincolnshire speciality, makes a great addition to any picnic.
