Christmas Food Checklist From Lakings
Check your Christmas food shopping list, then check it twice. Are you worried you have forgotten something? There’s still time to make sure you have everything you need to pull off a spectacular festive feast.
And of course, we are here to provide everything you can possibly think of and more. So, let’s run through that checklist.
The centrepiece of the Christmas Day dinner – the turkey.
Plump for one of our Great Grove Bronze free-range turkeys. Ethically farmed, the birds roam among 35 acres of Norfolk wood and grassland and live their lives as close to nature as possible.
Great Grove turkeys are slow-growing and this, coupled with the use of traditional farming methods, means the birds have plenty of time to grow to maturity.
This process produces a superior bird with natural gamey flavours and a layer of fat to aid with the cooking to make the meat nice and juicy.
Great Grove Free Range Turkeys are available to order on our website in weights of 4.5Kgs (10lbs) (a good size to feed 8-10 people) up to 7Kgs (15lbs). Prices start from £80.
All the trimmings
Almost as important as the main event – don’t forget to add everyone’s favourite side dishes to your shopping list. We’re not sure you’d be forgiven if you didn’t serve pigs in blankets with your Christmas roast. We follow a traditional recipe using Lincolnshire sausage meat wrapped in dry-cured streaky bacon.
And if you want to produce the ultimate in crispy, yet fluffy roast potatoes, add a jar of Dalziel goose fat to your shopping basket.
We also have our own traditionally made apricot and sultana stuffing available in-store and online as well as Atkins and Potts ready-made turkey gravy.
As for condiments, Mrs Darlington’s cranberry sauce is the perfect accompaniment to your Great Grove Turkey, as well as adding a sweet tang to your Boxing Day buffet spread or dolloped on a cold turkey sandwich.
Boxing Day
Will you serve Rib of beef or a joint of gammon bejewelled with glistening honey and cloves? Or maybe you like to break with tradition and dine on roast leg of lamb or a comforting dish of pork belly?
Whichever cut you choose for the Feast of Saint Stephen, you can be assured we will deliver on the following – quality, sustainably farmed, ethically produced meat.

Pork pies made to our own recipe, ready-to-bake sausage rolls using our Lincolnshire sausage meat, quiches, Lincolnshire cheeses, pickles, handmade Scotch eggs, speciality cooked meats like haslet and our ‘Yellowbelly’ delicacy of stuffed Lincolnshire stuffed chine, we can help you lay on the perfect spread for your guests. Or try our festive special – Game Pie – available to order from December 15th. It’s perfect for the cold buffet table over the Christmas period.
Gifting and hampers
We offer a 5kg Great Grove Bronze Turkey as part of the Tennyson Christmas Hamper that includes everything you need to create a show-stopping dinner.
Available online, the hamper includes; a 5 Kg Great Grove turkey, 12 Pigs in Blankets, 454g Sage & Onion Stuffing, 1 Jar of Mrs Darlington’s Cranberry Sauce, 900g Myers Christmas Pudding and a Lakings handmade pork pie.

As for dessert – don’t forget the ‘Figgy’ pudding. We offer Myers handmade Christmas puddings, created using a family recipe from the 1940s.
