Time to talk about Christmas
Some of you won’t even be thinking about uttering the C word yet, while some of you will already be jingling all the way!
For the team here at Lakings, we are building up to our busiest time of the year.
Last Christmas was tough for butchers and poultry farmers alike, with the supply of turkeys and geese being hard-hit by the spread of Avian flu.
This year, our suppliers have put measures in place to help mitigate any potential outbreaks, to meet demand – having been responsibly raising their flocks.
On our website, you can now find our Christmas feast options popping up, with plenty of options to suit your needs – from preferred flavours to how many people you’re feeding come Christmas Day.
Beautiful birds
If you’re struggling to know which bird is for you this Christmas, here’s a rundown of the trio of turkey options we have in-store and online at Lakings for 2023…
We are once again offering our delicious Turkey Breast Joint, removed from the bone and wrapped in dry-cured streaky bacon. If you don’t want a full bird at Christmas, the Turkey Breast joint is the perfect option. Available from 1kg up to 5kg, starting at under £20, no matter how many people you’re feeding this breast joint promises a moist serving, every time.
If, however, you want a full bird our Herb-Fed Bronze Turkeys are sure to impress, with their superior flavour and firm texture. Free to roam in and out of their cosy barns during the day and enjoy foraging in the paddock, these lucky chickens get to feed on freshly cut herbs that supplement their diet and impart that all-important flavour. The birds are dry plucked too, to give the finest finish, and hang for a minimum of 10 days to ensure a fuller flavoured, firmer textured meat.
Our Herb Fed Bronze Turkeys are individually boxed, hand-finished and arrive with vacuum-packed giblets (included in weight), a packet of fresh herbs, cooking instructions and a recipe for the ‘Perfect Christmas stuffing’. Not too shabby.
Finally, we have the gold standard in roasting birds, our Great Grove award-winning Free Range Bronze Turkeys. These birds are slow growing and reared to full maturity which is 24-27 weeks old. This gives them a layer of fat when cooking, which makes the meat tender and juicy. Just what you want to grace that table on Christmas Day. Which bird ticks the boxes that make up our December 25th, our Christmas online meat order book is now open.
